Our Memory Care community will meet the changing needs of individuals with dementia and promote the highest quality of life. Here we will focus on keeping residents active and engaged while incorporating four basic elements of engagement.
We understand seniors enjoyed a lifestyle filled with memories, achievements, family, close friends, careers and hobbies. Eden at Crestview wants to reflect on those memories as well as make new memories. We do this by using a "Lifetime History" which will tell us all about their history, their likes and dislikes, food preferences, and routines. This provides us with a roadmap for building on their strengths and preferences and enables us to provide a personalized, daily plan for each resident.
Eden coordinators will work with the resident and family to tailor a personalized daily routine that incorporates their "Lifetime History" as well as new activities.
We believe that four basic Elements of Engagement are important for our residents to enjoy a healthy, engaged and active lifestyle.
Being able to communicate in a clear and pleasant voice, making eye contact and keeping verbal instructions simple. Be sensitive and patient. Keep communication simple by asking one thing at a time. Allow plenty of time for a response.
Meal times should be calm and pleasant providing a well-balanced meal and a variety of snacks and hydration throughout the day. Meals should be pleasing to the eye and served in a manner that encourages independence with eating.
Daily activities should reflect the resident's preferences and ability to participate. Daily exercise to promote strength building and movement are important for a healthy lifestyle. Outdoor exercise and activity, fresh air and sunshine can help prevent restlessness or "sundowning."
Provide activities that each resident enjoys while introducing new activities that the resident can do. This might be in a group setting or an individual activity. Activities should always be designed for individual abilities, preferences, and favorite topics.
